HealthCare Training For ME

Healthcare Training for ME is a statewide collaboration of schools and government agencies working to ensure Maine’s workers and employers can easily access healthcare training opportunities and support.  Here you can find information on free training, earn while you learn programs, short-term programs and degree programs.

Maine Community Foundation Scholarships

The Maine Community Foundation (MaineCF) offers hundreds of scholarships that provide financial assistance for Maine residents attending accredited colleges, universities, technical and career schools. MaineCF has several scholarship funds that specifically support students and professionals pursuing education and careers in healthcare.

MaineCF offers scholarships to adult learners pursuing associate and bachelor’s degrees as well as scholarships to adults seeking a credential, certification or licensure. There are also scholarships for traditional students pursuing educations in healthcare.

Healthcare scholarships for traditional students:
  • Altrusa Bangor Club Ruth M. Milan Scholarship;
  • Francis X. Langlois Scholarship;
  • Joseph W. Mayo ALS Scholarship; and
  • Sally Stetson Tongren Scholarship for students who graduated from high school in Washington or Aroostook counties.

Higher Opportunity for Pathways to Employment (HOPE) 

HOPE is a program helping Maine families pursue training and education beyond high school to achieve their career plans by addressing barriers to success.  The HOPE Program is committed to helping reach educational goals by helping cover costs related to school. Whether seeking a short-term training certificate or an associate or bachelor's degree, the HOPE Program has the tools and resources to help you.

The National Health Service Corps has a number of loan repayment programs.

The University of Maine Credit for Prior Learning Options:  Credit for Prior Learning enables individuals to earn credit for college-level skills and knowledge they may have acquired outside of the traditional academic environment, such as through work experience, military training; and other formal and informal education and training. Credit for Prior Learning Options vary by institution, but may include standardized tests, military transcripts, credential review, portfolio assessment, or course challenge exams.

Roux Institute Healthcare Gap Year Program

The Gap Year is an innovative non-degree program designed for aspiring healthcare professionals who have an undergraduate degree to gain valuable experience providing direct patient care or essential behind-the-scenes services. Hosted by Northeastern University’s Roux Institute in Portland with employment opportunities throughout Maine.
