PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Research shows that more than 60% of survivors of human sex trafficking and those still being exploited will interface with the medical services community at some point. This webinar focuses on that interaction and offers critical information to help the practitioner and facility obtain the best outcome for the trafficking survivor. The training also promotes systemic change and serves as a foundation for the development of effective human trafficking patient protocols specific to facilities and their resources. This training was developed by professionals in human sex trafficking and seven survivors whose interactions and experiences with Iowa medical-services providers are shared.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Discuss the dynamics of interacting with a sex-trafficking survivor, including common triggers.
  • Examine individual and institutional awareness of the human-trafficking environment.
  • Outline potential revisions to protocols and policies to address the unique circumstances of a patient survivor.
