HIIN Culture of Safety Program

MHA, through the Hospital Improvement Innovation Network (HIIN), has partnered with the Maine Division of Licensing and Regulatory Services Sentinel Event Program to offer a Culture of Safety Program on Thursday, September 21 from 9:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at MHA’s conference room in Augusta.

All Maine hospitals, regardless of HIIN participation, are encouraged to attend.  There is no cost to participate (optional box lunches will be available for purchase at the event).  Registration materials (pre-registration is required) will be available within the coming weeks.

Conducting Effective HIPAA Workplace Investigations Webinar

This webinar will teach participants how to conduct a successful HIPAA investigation, with special emphasis on planning, interview techniques, investigation strategies, confronting the alleged wrongdoer, record auditing parameters and the exposure created when providers mishandle the investigation.

2017 Basic Trustee Orientation

The Basic Orientation - Healthcare Governance: Roles and Responsibilities of a Trustee is designed for newer board members. It will focus on the fundamental duties of hospital trustees. Highly respected governance expert Eric Lister, MD, who continues to receive rave reviews from past participants, will lead the program.

2017 Advanced Trustee Orientation: Hot Topics

This program has been cancelled due to unforseen circumstances.

The Advanced Orientation - Meeting the Current Challenges of Healthcare Governance: Hot Topics Discussion will feature in-depth discussion of several topics of particular importance to today's trustees. Highly respected governance expert Eric Lister, MD, who continues to receive rave reviews from past participants, will lead the program. This will be a highly interactive session. Participants are asked to compe prepared to discuss their own issues and challenges.

EMTALA Update 2017: Part 1

Part 1 - This webinar will cover the EMTALA regulations concerning on-call physicians. The presenter will discuss the proposed Officer of Inspector General (OIG) changes that effect on-call physicians. She will also review the CMS EMTALA CoPs for on-call physicians, explain various responsibilities of on-call physicians, recommendations of the OIG, and factors that identify EMTALA as the most problematic CMS standard.

Combating Drug Use: Part 1

Part 1 - This program will provide up-to-date information on the new synthetic drugs of abuse, marijuana concentrates, commonly abused prescription and over-the-counter drugs, heroin and new illicitly manufactured fentanyl derivatives growing in popularity. Alcohol fads and other emerging trends will also be discussed.

Part 2 - Participants will learn of the nature and scope of drug diversion from the healthcare workplace. In addition, there will be discussion of the efforts Mayo Clinic has found to be effective in preventing, detecting and intervening on drug diversion.
