Date: 5/20/2020, 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM

MHA is pleased to offer you this free virtual Restraint Certification series, through a sponsorship from Posey®, a TIDI® Products Brand.

PART 2 LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
•    Recall that CMS has a definition of what is a restraint, which needs to be included in the hospital
     policy;
•    Discuss when a drug can be used as a restraint, such as when a double dose is ordered or when a
     drug is used off-label;
•    Describe what constitutes the definition of seclusion, such as being in a locked room;
•    Recall that postural supports for positioning is not considered a restraint, such as securing the
      patient’s knee during surgery;
•    List two alternatives to restraint, such as the use of a low bed or padded floor mats, toileting,
      medication changes, etc.; and
•    Discuss that CMS requires an order for any restraint or seclusion use.

Those seeking certification must pass one test per session. A certificate will be issued upon completion of all four sessions and test, which will be valid for two years.
