  • J. Bryan Sexton, Ph.D., Associate Professor and Director of Patient Safety Research and Training at Duke University Health System and one of the country’s leading experts on caregiver burnout and resilience.  He will kick off our conference with his keynote, Thriving vs. Surviving: Enhancing Caregiver Resilience;
  • Regina Holliday, author, artist, patient advocate and founder of the Walking Gallery.  Regina’s advocacy mission was inspired by her husband’s struggle to get appropriate care during his battle with cancer. During her session, Regina will share her story, how it can be used to improve care and how it inspired her to use painting as a catalyst for change;
  • Former U.S. Army Ranger, author and country music artist Keni Thomas will present Train as you Fight, Fight as you Train and Lead by Example.  As a former United States Army Ranger in the now famed “Blackhawk Down” mission, Keni will share his story of courage and leadership from the battlefield and beyond, illustrating the power of leading by example at all levels;
  • Craig Clapper, PE, CMQ/OE, Partner, Strategic Consulting, Press Ganey and Founding Partner, Healthcare Performance Improvement (HPI) on The Journey to High Reliability.  Craig has more than 25 years of experience improving reliability in nuclear power, transportation and healthcare. He specializes in cause analysis, reliability improvement and safety culture improvements; and
  • High-energy, high-content motivational speaker Chip Madera, MS, will close out the conference with his session, Embracing Change and Refueling the Fire Within. Chip is one of the country’s premiere speakers and experts on courageous leadership, thriving in changing environments and employee engagement and performance.

Each year the Maine Hospital Association honors a caregiver from a member institution who demonstrates extraordinary committment to the delivery of care to patients and their families.
